This PML extra capacity transmission pan fits the 3 speed Ford C6 transmissions. Commonly, the C6 is found on 1960s and 1970s full size cars and Ford vans, motor homes, SUVs, and trucks.
Many configurations of these vehicles can use this PML pan:
- Bronco, 1978-1988, 351 engine
- F150 truck, 1970s
- F250 truck, 1966-1988, with 351, 460, 6.9 or diesel engines
- F350 SRW truck, 1966-1988, with 351, 450, 6.9 or diesel engines
Always check your vehicle to verify transmission and space available for a larger pan. Configurations vary!
Volume: 2.5 quarts over stock
Dimensions: Click here for dimensions.
Number of Bolts: 17
Benefits:
- Extra capacity
- Finned for heat dissipation
- Stepped at front and rear to clear frame cross members
- Drain hole and magnetic drain plug included
- Heavy duty sand cast aluminum construction
- Thick, machined flat gasket flange for a tight seal to the transmission housing
The extra capacity comes from the deep sump in the middle of the pan. Please check your vehicle carefully using the dimensions above for clearance and to verify the transmission installed on your truck or SUV.
The Ford C6 transmission pan is also called the SelectShift Cruise–o– Matic transmission.
Included with PML Transmission Pan

PML includes new mounting bolts and a magnetic drain plug with each pan. PML includes new mounting hardware since the stock bolts would not be long enough. The flange of the PML pan is much thicker than the stock pan for a secure seal to the housing.
Drain and Bosses for Temperature Sending Units

The drain is located on the driver/left side of the transmission pan. PML includes a magnetic drain plug with each order.
This pan has two bosses (thick, round areas) that can optionally be machined for a temperature sending unit. If you wish PML to drill and tap for a temperature sending unit, there is a machining charge. Select this option in the shopping cart.
In 2017, we moved the boss on the passenger side to the inside of the pan. In a few vehicle configurations, the drive shaft runs close to the pan and contacted the boss that had been on the outside of the PML pan.
Gaskets and Filters for PML C6 Pan

These pictures show the inside of the PML pan and two possible filter kits for this PML pan.
PML designed this pan to work with most stock gaskets and filters. This PML pan is NOT designed to work with the long pick up tubes that sit on the bottom of the pan.
Filter supports are not needed as the filter bolts on to the valve body. The fluid level is at the same place with a PML pan or a stock pan so an extension is not needed.
Both filter kits include a cork composite gasket, which we recommended for use with a PML transmission pan.
These are from Fram and have part numbers FT1025a and FT1037a (longer pick-up spout show on right).
Long Pick Up Tubes
- The long pick up tubes that rest on the bottom of the pan would not rest on the bottom of the PML pan since the pan is deeper. The PML pan is NOT designed to support a pick up tube. If the tube should fall out of the main part of the filter, severe damage could result.
- A customer with a 1987 F250 purchased the the FT 1055a C6 filter, which he used with his stock pan. This truck has the long pick up tube which connects to the filter with a gasket.
- Tubes may have come with the stock pan from Ford.
Letters on Housing Causing Interference?
On a 1989 Bronco, a customer reported that the transmission housing had letters cast into it next to the flange. The letters were raised and hung down slightly below the housing flange mating surface.
Because of the lettering, he was not able to get a good seal. The PML flange is thick and wide and extended slightly over the edge of the housing flange, hitting the letters. He ground of some of the flange on the PML pan with a belt sander. This allowed the pan to seat correctly and snugly.
PML Ford C6 Pans Compared to Stock
PML also makes a stock capacity C6 transmission pan, PML Part Number 11064, for applications that cannot accommodate a deep pan. The stock capacity pan is intended for the Ford 1960's and 1970's full size cars with the C6 transmission.
The image shows three stock Ford C6 transmission pans with the PML deep and stock capacity pans. (Click on image to view larger picture.)
The PML stock capacity C6 pan will not clear the frame cross members that run under the pan on some Ford trucks.
